She graduated with a BSc(Hons) in Geography and Environmental Management from the School of the Built Environment at the University of the West of England and has achieved marketing qualifications since then. Since graduating, apart from 2 years testing whether she liked the financial services industry, Angela has spent 8 years in business to business marketing for the construction industry mostly in the area of sustainability. She started at Tarmac in 2006 as a Product Manager.

What is your main role in the project?

Prior to July 2009, my main role was to look after the marketing and PR for the project and keep anyone that has an interest in the project, informed and updated with relevant information.  I also became the Project Manager in July 2009 while still focussing on marketing.

What are you looking forward to?
I’m looking forward to seeing the results from the monitoring that is taking place over the next few years. The homes will be occupied by students and university staff and will provide real data rather than simulated info.

What are you most nervous about throughout the project?
Making sure the completion date and the date for the launch event coincide! But I have every faith they will.

Why do you think this project is valuable?
For me it’s about proving that masonry construction and traditional UK building methods, can be used to meet the specifications of the Code for Sustainable Homes at all levels.

What do you think you’ll learn by being involved?
How to build a zero carbon house! Who knows, I might try and build my own home one day.

Personal Info

Town where you live?
South Birmingham.

Any pets?
A 4 year old german shepherd dog, Boomer (short for Boomerang because despite all my attempts, he keeps on coming back!).

I enjoy walking the dog, going to the gym, socialising etc.  I don’t get much time for hobbies, although I do try.

What you like to do at the weekend?
Mostly spending time with my family and meeting up with friends.

Any other info that you think sums you up (eg, which football team you support) or a claim to fame or a little known fact about you)?
A pretty useless skill is speaking Spanish and French. I don’t find much day to day use for it! I'm also fluent in Geordie (thanks to my partner!).  After 9 years together he still comes out with words I've never heard before.  Can’t think of a claim to fame that doesn’t start with 'I know someone that knows someone who knows...….. '

Question mark

Did you know?

Fact 22

If zerocarbon standards were adopted across the UK they would avoid emissions of 26 MtCO2 compared with continuing to build to 2006 standards. This is why it is imperative that we make sure that builders and suppliers know what is needed and how it may be achieved as they plan construction.
