Tarmac gains BES 6001 responsible sourcing across four complete product ranges

From left to right: (l-r) Mike Wignall, Executive Director TBP Masonry and Packed Products and Dr Martyn Kenny, Head of Sustainability for Tarmac Limited Tarmac Limited has announced that it has gained two prestigious accreditations - BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products and Achilles Building Confidence. These independent endorsements reinforce the company's commitment to producing materials in a sustainable manner and helping customers to achieve the highest standards of responsible souring against schemes like BREEAM and the Code for Sustainable Homes (CfSH).

Tarmac has been awarded a BES 6001 rating of VERY GOOD across four complete product ranges - aggregates, ready-mixed concrete, aircrete and aggregate blocks - supplied from over 350 plants across the UK. No other company has achieved a higher rating to date across this many product groups.

The firm's entire UK organisation has also been awarded the Achilles BuildingConfidence certification. BuildingConfidence, an initiative set up by Achilles and Bovis Lend Lease, is becoming recognised as the standard for supplier excellence within the industry, with major contractors using the service to evaluate their supply chains, drive up performance and forge longer lasting relationships with key suppliers.

Dr Martyn Kenny, Head of Sustainability at Tarmac Limited said: "Responsible sourcing is an increasingly important issue for our customers and the Government. These accreditations show that we're taking it seriously and they will help differentiate Tarmac from our competitors. Sustainability is core to Tarmac's business strategy, and our affiliation to these two schemes gives our clients added, independent reassurance and confidence that they are sourcing their materials responsibly."

Dr Kenny continues: "We offer BES 6001 across entire product ranges, not just one site, so customers get the consistency and assurance of knowing the precise input our products can make to their overall rating on schemes like BREEAM and CfSH when they buy these materials from us irrespective of which site they buy from. We can make a real difference to the sustainability credentials of their projects."
