Creative Energy Homes logoWhen Tarmac and Lovell were looking at a location to build the 2 homes, the University of Nottingham's Creative Energy project offered the ideal solution.  Not only will the homes be left on the site, giving us access to them for 20 years, but they would be evaluated and monitored by the University as part of a research project.

All six homes constructed on the University Park will be designed and constructed to various degrees of innovation and flexibility to allow the
testing of different aspects of modern methods of construction (mmc) including layout and form, cladding materials, roof structures, foundations, glazing materials, thermal performance, building services systems, sustainable/ renewable energy technologies, lighting systems, acoustics and water supply. The Creative Energy Homes project aims to stimulate sustainable design ideas and promote new ways of providing affordable, environmentally sustainable housing that are innovative in their design.

Real Data

Each of the homes will be lived in by students and/or university staff. This will provide real data, of how people use their homes over a period of time, rather than just simulating the data or having people stay for short periods of time. It will also give an indication of how maintenance intensive the homes really are.  With guidance from Dr Mark Gillott we are currently in the process of determining the best monitoring equipment for our requirements.

This area of the site will be updated once the homes are being lived in. We will be providing the real in-use performance data.  We will also be putting together information on the monitoring systems we use.
